Jeremy Asher

Job Title: Senior Consultant Regulatory Solicitor

Jeremy Asher is a regulatory lawyer with more than 25 years of experience dealing with serious and high-profile cases.

Jeremy mainly specialises in the removal of CIFAS and other markers that are loaded by banks and financial institutions where customers are wrongly suspected of committing fraud and other financial crimes.

Such markers can adversely affect creditworthiness leading to bank accounts being closed, applications for mortgages and loans being refused, the closure of businesses and even the loss of careers.

Jeremy is a prolific writer and blogger on the subject – for his latest posts see his LinkedIn profile and follow him for regular updates.

Jeremy was the first lawyer to specialise in, and write about, this niche area of law which involves detailed technical challenges, utilising his deep understanding of criminal investigations and procedure as well as data protection and banking law.  He also has experience appealing such cases to the Financial Ombudsman Service, the Business Banking Resolution Service and Court.

Jeremy draws on his considerable experience to best represent and advise his clients: he has defended businesses, company directors and professionals charged with regulatory offences, by organisations such as the SFO, CPS, Trading Standards, Health & Safety Executive, Environment Agency, MMO, MCA and HMRC.

He also acts for the victims of Push Payment Fraud wishing to apply for compensation from banks.

Previously Jeremy built and led the Fraud & Business Crime Team of a top 100 law firm, which was top-ranked by Legal 500 for 5 consecutive years.  During that time Jeremy brought more than 500 successful criminal prosecutions, including many for fraud, for local government and central government, and private prosecutions for businesses and individuals.  Some of his cases received national press coverage and led to lengthy custodial sentences, and some included successful applications for Restraint and Confiscation Orders under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Jeremy is a member of the South West Fraud Forum and Private Prosecutors’ Association.
