Robert Ryder
Job Title: Consultant Solicitor
Robert has over 40 years of experience dealing with litigation of all types and general dispute resolution in a wide range of cases, from the County Court to the Court of Appeal. Prior to joining Setfords, Robert was with a leading entertainment law firm in Central London for 13 years. He represents clients at Court hearings and practises as an advocate in the lower Courts.
His focus is on commercial disputes, examples of which include:
- Boardroom disputes-claims of unfair prejudice against minority shareholders
- Breaches of joint venture agreements
- Property disputes concerning both ownership claims between unmarried partners under the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act
- Boundary issues and complaints of nuisance by neighbours
- Breach of contract claims including pursuing monies due under guarantees and loan agreements and resisting such claims too
- Dealing with breaches of lease covenants by landlords
- Claims against builders and other construction claims
- Advising disability claims and the provision of reasonable adjustments
- Claims in relation to the sale of goods by both the seller and acting for purchasers
- Claims of negligence (not medical negligence)
He has a loyal following of clients developed over his many years of practice, ranging from manufacturers and distributors of diverse products to individual clients and professionals.
Robert is very well respected by his colleagues and broader members of the legal profession, having been President of local law societies. He is a Liveryman in the City of London and has particularly strong links with barristers both as a solicitor and also as a Notary Public in Central London.
Robert is a qualified mediator and focuses on representing clients in mediations and other forms of alternative dispute resolution.
His work as a Notary gives him an insight into international business and the needs of clients in the broader world.
